Mrs G's route to pilates

About Mrs G

I qualified as a Pilates instructor in 2018 after taking up the exercise 6 years before hand and fell in love with how the exercise made me feel. I have never been a fitness fanatic though have thrown my hand in occasionally with a bit of running, cycling and swimming. But nothing has stuck with me quite the same. Pilates brings your mind and body together needing complete concentration allowing you to forget about all the other intrusions you might be having. The movements require precision in movement including stabilising of one area to move the other. The core develops strength to support the rest of your body allowing the mobility muscles to do their job rather than supporting your skeleton. Also incorporating the breath into the movement not only applies a mindful element to the session but helps engage the muscles to be more effective.

My background as a nurse since 1992 gives me a greater depth of understanding of the impact of certain aliments can have on daily life. I am passionate about keeping people mobile and want you to get the most out of the classes whilst keeping you safe and promote best practice. Get in contact to see how this wonderful exercise can help you with your daily life.

The Benefits of Pilates

A refreshing mind-body workout

By implementing the Pilates breath, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, using concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely in tune with your body. You actually learn how to control its movement, by allowing the muscles to support the spine rather than the other way around.
In Pilates the quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. Proper breathing is essential, and helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency. Last but not least, learning to breathe properly can reduce stress.

Get Started

The principles of pilates

concentrate

Strongly

Being in tune with your body and blocking out intrusive thoughts. Pilates aims to help you focus fully on each movement flowing from one to the next.

Breath

Calmly

The breath in pilates is important but one that most people find difficult to accomplish. I will guide you through this in our sessions.

Centered

Movements

In pilates we concentrate on all movements coming from a central core. Some refer to this as “The Power House”. In class we will concentrate on developing strength to these core muscles allowing a more controlled use of the mobility muscles.

Precision

and alignment

Alignment in Pilates is essential. To begin with some of the posisitions I get you into you might feel a bit wonky as we start the realign the body.

Flow

and relaxation

in class the exercises will be practised in a flowing manner using the contraction, hold and relaxation of the muscles to achieve this.

Control

your exercise

Pilates is about quality over quantity. All the exercises in my classes are layered so achievable by all. What's essential is that you work on a manageable level to keep the control and as you get stronger move on through the levels.
